FemiNICHE is an independent women-run culture and literary magazine publishing essays, criticism, poetry, fiction, interviews, and reviews. We are interested in work that interrogates womanhood and contemporary life with a strong voice and a clear point of view. We publish both emerging and established writers from around the world, and we mean it when we say by women, for everyone.
What makes us different? We are all of the integral parts of a literary journal, a culture blog, and a fan page. Our most distinctive sections, The Discourse and Obsessions, exist because we believe cultural commentary does not have to be academic or serious (though there’s definitely still a place for that at FemiNICHE), and enthusiasm is a legitimate critical position. We want writing that has something to say and is not afraid to say it. We want everyone to be able to share their NICHE.
FemiNICHE welcomes submissions from women and gender-diverse people at any stage of their writing journey. First-time contributors are encouraged to pitch.
Longform personal or cultural essays with a strong voice and a clear argument.
800 – 3,000 words
Film, TV, music, books, or anything worth having an opinion about.
400 – 900 words
The Discourse is for the take that needs to be said even if people will disagree. Cultural commentary, hot takes, and responses to things currently happening. Don’t worry about being obvious or safe. We want punchy, opinionated, and willing to back it up.
300 – 1,000 words
Short and sweet. Tell us about something you have been watching, reading, listening to, or fixating on, and make us want to do the same. Make us finish reading and immediately want to look it up. If that happens, you nailed it.
150 – 300 words
Short literary fiction with a strong sense of voice and world. Any subgenre welcome.
